Discover the Tradition and Beauty of Tsugaru Shamisen in Finland

From lessons to performances, experience shamisen together.

Hei!

My name is Zuiko, and I’m a Tsugaru Shamisen performer from Taiwan.

I was first trained in Japan under shamisen masters, where I learned not only the techniques but also the deep spirit of this traditional Japanese instrument. For more than ten years, I have dedicated myself to the shamisen—performing on stage, teaching students, and creating original music. This instrument has given me endless joy and inspiration, and it has shaped me and made me feel more complete.

Now, living in Finland and studying at the Sibelius Academy, I am expanding my journey by working with ensembles, crossing musical genres, and searching for my own musical identity. The shamisen has become like a soulmate to me, and my dream is to share its beauty and power with people here.

Through lessons, concerts, and community gatherings, my vision is to build a vibrant shamisen community in Finland, where tradition and creativity meet. Whether you are a musician, a beginner, or simply curious, I warmly invite you to join us and become part of this growing story!

Fillipo, Italy

"Even though I had no musical knowledge, Zuiko guided me through the study of the shamisen with kindness and attention, and in less than a year, I was able to play with him on a stage!
Being able to play and share experiences with other shamisen players is exceptional, and I'm very happy to be part of this community of diverse people with similar interests. Being able to play in front of an audience has encouraged me to study even more and has made all my studying worthwhile."

Heikki, Finland

"It has been a great experience learning Tsugaru Shamisen with Zuiko. In less than a year, he has taught me theory, technique, and songs.
He also gave me the confidence to join the group on stage and play for hundreds of people! What an amazing learning journey so far!"

Stas, Russia

"Tsugaru shamisen rocks! It sounds powerful and beautiful at the same time. I think there’s only one person in Helsinki who can teach you to play it — and what an amazing coincidence: this person is a true superstar of shamisen music and an incredible teacher who can take you straight to Japanese music heaven. I can’t recommend Zuiko’s shamisen classes enough!"
